With recent advancement in genetics it is becoming ever more certain, the relationships between species.
The Tree of Life Project is undertaking the monumental task of classifying every living species on the planet.
It is exciting to me that BYU’s Biology Department is heavily envolved in the project.

The beautiful Cartwheel Galaxy is a wonder to behold. I’m getting such a kick out of learning more about the night sky. My work has caused me to be out after dark a lot more lately and the wonder of it all never ceases to amaze me. Learn more about the Cartwheel Galaxy here.

I just finished Westfall’s biography of Sir Isaac Newton. The man was way more amazing than I ever expected. For myself, being neither a mathematician nor a physicist, the most fascinating and surprising thing was his in depth and, for the time, out of the box examination of religion.
As with his scientific studies, Newton’s religious studies were relentless in the pursuit of Truth. Between the end of the Bible and the nineteen century, I can find no one who concluded more precisely such doctrines as the nature of God, the relationship of the Father and Son, the relationship of God and man, the nature of early Christianity, or the magnitude and meaning of the then extant departure of Christianity from the original. Obviously, this is from an observer who agrees with his conclusions.
Newton’s prodigious talent for leaving no stone unturned in his examination of his subject matter, coupled with his utter genius leaves me entirely in awe.
Westfall’s 20 year effort in writing this biography has yielded a masterpiece!
My favorite Newton quote: “I don’t know what I may seem to the world, but, as to myself, I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the sea shore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me.”

Hubble has done it again with this latest breathtaking shot of the Orion Nebula. See details at the Hubble Site.
Winter is a great time to view the Nebula. It is the middle “star” in Orion’s Sword and can be seen quite nicely even with a pair of binoculars. Sometimes called Nair Al Saif the nebula is one of the more easily found and beautiful wonders of the Winter Sky.
Here is a view of the Orion Constellation showing the nebula quite clearly. Binoculars wouldn’t show the entire constellation.

This is, without doubt, one of my all time favorite books. At once, heartwarming, amusing, thought provoking, surprising and cozy.
I expect to read it again and again.
